Mr Allen is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in knees and hips. Mr Allen qualified at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1980. He undertook orthopaedic training on the Percivall Pott Training Rotation based at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, which includes working at The Norfolk and Norwich, The Royal National Orthopaedic, and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. Mr Allen completed a fellowship in the United States and a Trauma fellowship in Germany.

He runs the Harlow Knee Course, a well-established training course for total knee replacement surgery. He teaches and lectures widely on knee replacement and has performed over 5,000 total knee replacements. He was recognized as one of the top 10 Knee Replacement surgeons in the UK in a poll of knee surgeons carried out by the Daily Mail in 2010.
