Knee Surgery
Arthroscopic surgery is a well-established procedure for dealing with meniscal pathology, loose bodies and some articular surface problems. Meniscal resection and repair, loose body removal and micro fracture techniques are all carried out routinely by Paul Allen.
Arthroscopic ligament reconstructions, using either patella tendon or hamstring grafts, are also performed regularly by Mr Allen. These procedures are usually carried out as day cases and are followed by a prolonged course of physiotherapy to allow the patient back to sporting activity.
Total and partial knee replacements are needed for arthritic joints. Mr Allen is one of the first surgeons in the UK to use the new Attune total knee replacement. This has been developed over the last 7 years and provides the most up to date and fully researched joint replacement on the market today.
Normal instrumentation for joint replacement is very efficient in the vast majority of patients, but, under certain circumstances, patient specific instrumentation is a possibility.
